How to Change a Golf Cart Tire
Have you ever changed the tire of your car? Changing a golf cart tire is pretty much the same. That said, use the same precautions when doing the job.

Tools needed for the job:
- A flathead screw driver
- A lug wrench or a socket that fits with a ratchet wrench
- A floor jack
- A jack stand or several lengths of 2x6 boards
- Several bricks or short pieces of 2x4 boards
Golf Cart Tire Replacement Instructions:
- Park your golf cart on a flat, level surface. Turn the vehicle off and set the parking brake.
- Place bricks or 2x4s in front of and behind the tire on the side opposite of where you’re working, to make sure the golf cart does not move while you are working on it.
- Use the wrench to start to loosen the lug nuts—no more than a couple of turns, don’t unscrew them all the way! This is done because it’s easier to apply leverage on the wrench when the cart is on the ground; if the cart is already jacked, the wheel will turn when you try to loosen the nuts.
- Position the floor jack where you want to lift the golf cart off the ground. Your owners manual will show you where to place the jack. If you don’t have the owner’s manual, locate a solid place on the frame where you will not damage the underside of your golf cart. Make sure the spot is secure and can hold the weight of the cart!
- Jack the cart up so it is off the ground. WARNING: Never put your legs or any other part of your body under the cart while it is raised off the ground—you don’t want to hear that crunch!
- Use the jack stand or 2x6’s to hold the cart up while you are working on it.
- Let the cart down so it is resting on the jack stand or 2x6’s.
- Completely remove the lug nuts and set them in a safe place, preferably where your dog won’t eat them.
- Remove the flat tire and replace it with the new tire. If you’re replacing the entire wheel with a new preassembled tire and wheel, this will be a lot easier! If you’re attempting to repair a flat tire yourself, click here to read why we recommend against this. /li>
- Reverse what you did when removing the old wheel from your cart, sliding the new wheel back onto the bolts, replacing the lug nuts, and starting to tighten them at least a few turns with the wrench.
- Jack the cart up so it clears your jack stand or 2x6’s and remove them.
- Lower the cart so it is sitting with all its weight on the ground.
- Fully tighten the lug nuts with your wrench, taking care not to damage your knuckles and swear in front of your kids.
- Remove the bricks or blocks in front and back of the tire.
Congratulations! You’ve replaced your golf cart tire, and you’re ready to go!
