How to Replace a Wheelbarrow Tire

Replacing a wheelbarrow tire is easy, as long as you have the proper wrench for the job.

WARNING: Be cautious and take safety precautions whenever you work on your equipment. Seek professional help if you need it. We will not be held responsible for any injuries or damaged equipment.

Tools you’ll need to replace your wheelbarrow’s tire:

  • A socket wrench that fits your wheelbarrow’s bolts

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Take all the money you saved from buying your new tire from out of your wheelbarrow.
  2. Turn the wheelbarrow upside down.
  3. Locate the way the wheel is attached to the wheelbarrow. Most larger wheelbarrows have an axle running through the wheel which is attached to the wooden handles by a pair of brackets. Remove both brackets to free the axle and remove the wheel.
  4. Set the screws or bolts aside in a safe place so they are available when you are reattaching the wheel.
  5. Measure the hub length and bearing size to ensure the new wheel will fit correctly. Measure the bearing size accurately – it’s a really close measurement.
  6. Obtain the replacement wheel and tire, and reassemble using the above instructions in reverse order.
  7. If you want to install a new wheelbarrow tire on an old wheel, we suggest you don’t try this at home. Most people do not have the proper equipment to accomplish this, including a 10-ton hydraulic press, a mounting cone, and permanently grease-stained coveralls. If you’d like to replace just the tire, save blood, sweat, and tears by taking the old tire and wheel assembly you just removed and the new tire you just bought to your local mechanic to have it installed.
